Addis – Lalibela
The trip begins at 8am from the place you stayed the night or direct pick you from the first flight. You will drive to the churches to the amazing settlings of the people’s history and some of the rock hewn churches found on the center of the town. Lalibela
Early morning after your first meal, you will visit Bibilla found 30 km of north of lalibela. The drivers handle everything to see all the churches found in the village. You see three of the churches found in that localities. Bilbilla cherkos, Bilbilla Giorgis and Bilbilla Arbaetu insesa. And the most intriguing of the churches around Bilbilla is Yemrehanna Kirstos monastery. It is constructed in the late axumite style with alternating layers of wood and gypsum faced granite. A cavern behind the church houses the bones of more than 10000 Christian pilgrims who travelled from afar to die at the monastery. You will back to lalibela at early afternoon and fly to addis.
It took King Lalibela his entire reign and more than 60,000 men to finish the work. According to local accounts, the work was assisted by angels. Other erected and cave churches built during this period are found at a short distance from the town. Now a day the town is the center of tourism because of the 11 rock hewn churches found around it. It welcomes some 140,000 pilgrims a Year, especially between Christmas and Tikmet.
